The X Files - 2016 stylee

I've just managed finally to watch an episode of the new series, and following kernel1 's post recently about the shock of seeing it all again, I felt compelled to post.

Mainly I want to ask - what the hell is going on with Duchovny? The monotone voice and static face had its charms way back when, but right now he looks... stuffed, poor lad. And whereas in the old days both managed to spout the daft lines about aliens and monsters with a fair degree of conviction, here they seemed to to be on the edge of giggles all the time. But maybe they were - "Mulder and Scully meet the WereMonster" was in fact pretty hilarious. But self-referential to an absurd degree.

And yet I enjoyed it. :)

Anyone else have such reactions?

I haven't wound myself up to watch it yet... um, and possibly I won't. I don't know - I want to watch, I want to fall in love all over again, but I keep seeing people saying things like you, and chicken out *g*

I need to watch the other eps really, but unless they do something with the storyline for the two of them, I don't think you'll fall in love, sadly. As I understand it, there is no romantic involvement, and that does a lot to the chemistry in the show. I dunno whether that will develop in the series but without that frisson the whole thing IMHO just looks flat. :(
Horrible monster next week though, so things it may look up...
